Helping Lakehead Students Thrive
University can be an exciting time, but it can also bring significant challenges to students’ mental health and wellbeing. Academic pressure, financial concerns, uncertainty about the future, relationships, loneliness, balancing work and school, and the transition to university life can all affect how students feel, function and connect with others.
Student Health and Wellness works to ensure that Lakehead students have opportunities to build the skills, knowledge and connections they need to support their wellbeing throughout their university experience. While individual supports such as counselling and medical care are an important part of this work, creating a campus culture that supports mental health is equally important.
Thrive Week is a campus-wide mental health and wellbeing initiative designed to bring these opportunities together. Through workshops, activities, educational programming and opportunities for connection, Thrive Week gives students practical tools they can use in their everyday lives while encouraging conversations about mental health and reducing the stigma associated with seeking support.
With additional funding, Student Health and Wellness can expand Thrive Week and offer more meaningful, accessible and engaging opportunities for students across Lakehead’s campuses.
