The Lakehead University Concrete Canoe Team is undertaking the design, development, and construction of a full-scale concrete canoe to compete in the 2026 Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition (CNCCC). This national engineering competition challenges student teams to integrate structural design, materials engineering, project management, and hands-on fabrication to deliver a fully functional prototype that meets strict technical specifications and performance standards.
Our 2025–2026 project, named Amethyst Armada, reflects both regional identity and the team’s commitment to technical innovation. The work involves comprehensive research, structural analysis, advanced concrete mix design, sustainability evaluations, prototype construction, and preparation for technical presentations and race demonstrations. Participation in this competition provides a unique experiential learning environment where students apply engineering theory to a complex, real-world project.
Funding received through this account will directly support material procurement, laboratory testing, fabrication, transportation to the national competition, and the team’s broader outreach and educational initiatives. All contributions help strengthen applied engineering education at Lakehead University and enable students to represent the institution at the national level.
All funds contributed to the Amethyst Armada project directly support the full lifecycle of our 2026 concrete canoe. Donations will be used to purchase specialized materials, laboratory supplies, and testing equipment required for concrete mix development and structural analysis. Funding also covers fabrication expenses, mold construction, safety equipment, tool procurement, and workshop operations.
Additionally, support will help offset transportation and logistics costs associated with bringing the canoe and team to the 2026 Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition. Every contribution strengthens hands-on engineering education at Lakehead University and ensures our team can safely, effectively, and competitively execute this project from design to final race day.
No funding has been received for this project yet, or all donors are wishing to remain anonymous.
