Mentoring for Mentors – Community of Practice

In this practical learning series, associate teachers, school leaders, and faculty of education staff will have an opportunity to reflect on their current mentoring experiences and refine their mentorship skills via learning-focused conversations.

 

Each session in the series will introduce practical mentoring tools and is intended to serve as a provocation for applying these tools in a wide variety of mentoring relationships and contexts.

 

Outline:

1. Foundational Mentoring Skills (November 2026)

  • Participants will explore the roles and stances of effective mentors (consultant, collaborator, and coach) and construct an understanding of:

Learning-Focused Conversations | Meaningful Feedback | Powerful Mentoring Designs

 

2. Appreciative Inquiry  (Dec / Jan 2027)

  • Participants will use Appreciative Inquiry to co-construct understanding of effective mentoring practices:  

Mentoring Themes of Success | Real World Challenges | Strategy Harvest of ideas

 

3.  Navigating Complexity (February 2027)

  • Participants will go deeper into the coaching stance with specific focus on:

Working with Resistance | Complex Conversations | Mentoring Case Stories

 

4.  Mentoring as Learning – Emergent Design (March 2027)

  • Areas of focus to be determined by input from community of practice.  Possible topics may include:

Intellectual Humility | Collaborative Professionalism

 

5.  Reflect | Discover | Design (April 2027)                      

  • Reflect – Lessons Learned & Themes of Success from mentoring work as an associate teacher, school leader, faculty staff
  • Discover – Ideas and innovations to be initiated or continued moving forward
  • Design – So What | Now What next steps
