Lakehead Giving

What is crowdfunding?
It is the action of raising a reasonable amount of funds from a large number of small donations. These gifts are usually obtained from friends and social networks with the objective to raise funds for one unique cause or project.  

How is Lakehead's site different from other microfunding sites?
All of the projects listed on Lakehead University's crowdfunding site support projects authorized and promoted by Lakehead University. Charitable donations made to any of the projects listed will receive an official tax receipt from Lakehead University, in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) standards. There are no service charges associated with donations made to Lakehead Giving's projects. The entire donation received will support your chosen project.

Is my information secure?
Yes. Lakehead University complies with all Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules.

What happens if the project is unsuccessful?
If a project does not reach goal and is unable to proceed without the full funding, the funds will be directed to a similar initiative in keeping with the spirit and intent of the original project, at the discretion of External Relations. 

Will my donation be made public?
You may choose to share your name and/or amount of your gift or make it anonymously. The amount you donate will be added to the total dollars raised towards the project, but no name will be listed if you opt to make your gift privately.

Is this the only way to support these projects?
We understand that some donors prefer to use other methods to donate to worthwhile causes. If you prefer, you can send a cheque specifying the project you wish to support, making sure you include the address for your tax receipt to:

How can I donate to other Lakehead University priorities?
Lakehead University's main giving website is donate.lakeheadu.ca.  Options such as one-time gifts, monthly giving, memorial, honour and legacy giving can be found there.  For more information, you may call 807-343-8010 x.8972 or toll-free at 1-800-832-8076.

Is there a minimum or maximum for online gifts?
No. You can be confident that Lakehead University offers a safe and secure website for transactions of any size.  Please be advised that receipts will only be issued for donations of $20 or more.
